Carbonate Rocks Field Trip

Nov 7, 2016

This past October, Dr. Mike Pope led a Carbonate Rocks class (GEOL 623) composed of graduate students on a trip to Southeastern New Mexico and West Texas.

The students spent most of the 8-day trip hiking in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, studying the different facies of the Permian Reef Platform, measuring stratigraphic columns, and collecting rock samples. Carbonate Rocks focuses on the principles of carbonate sedimentology and carbonate depositional sequences utilized to interpret the rock record through time.

Check out the pictures from their trip here.
