Students study land and sea in Italy

A group of student pioneers in Geology 101 and Oceanography 251/252 are establishing a beachhead in Italy for the College of Geosciences. Led by professors Wilf Gardner (Oceanography) and Mary Jo Richardson (Oceanography and Geology and Geophysics), this is the first time the college has participated in Texas A&M’s program at the Santa Chiara Study Center in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy.

Environmental studies majors interning in D.C.

Two environmental studies majors will be taking part in Texas A&M’s Public Policy Internship Program in Washington, D.C., this fall. Sara Carpenter will intern with the Environmental Protection Agency and hopes to pursue a career involving environmental issues. Beth Stockert will intern with the Peace Corps Green Strategy Committee and plans to work in environmental protection after she graduates.

Anna Ahlstrom, geology and geophysics

When Anna Ahlstrom entered graduate school at Texas A&M University to study geomorphology, she had already lived in a Sudanese village and mapped a Turkish desert. She is now refining her global experiences with the educational tools needed give global communities a firmer footing.
