Kennicutt appointed to NSF advisory committee

Texas A&M oceanographer Mahlon C. Kennicutt II has been appointed to the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Advisory Committee for International Science and Engineering (AC-ISE). The committee comprises 15 members from academic and non-academic institutions across the United States.

During his three-year appointment to the committee, Kennicutt will provide advice and recommendations on the support of research and education-related activities in science and engineering to the NSF. The goal is to foster work in a global context and to promote the NSF's international role in science and engineering. Some of the outcomes of the committee may affect national policy.

The committee's mission fits strategically in line with the NSF's current goal: "Keep the United States globally competitive at the frontiers of knowledge by increasing international partnerships and collaborations."

Kennicutt is also president of the International Council of Science's Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).
